Dysfunctional uterine bleeding in Hindi is known as Asaamaany Garbhaashay Raktasraav. It is defined as abnormal and heavy uterine bleeding that happens outside the regular menstruation cycle. It occurs when the levels of estrogen rise or are not balanced adequately by the levels of progesterone in the body, causing the endometrial or uterine lining to grow until it sheds off.   • It may be caused due to endometriosis, bulky uterus, carcinoma and other uterine diseases and disorders. 
  • Liver disease, PCOS and obesity can also cause dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
  • Taking oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) or using non-progestin-containing IUDs are also a few of the leading causes of this disorder.

  • Herbs: 

According to Ayurveda, herbs that help pacify Pitta Dosha and detoxify Rakta Dhatu should be used to treat this disorder. Some herbs and Ayurvedic medicine for dysfunctional uterine bleeding include Draksha, Chandana, Shatavari, Nagakesara, Dhataki, Lodhra, Daruharidra, Gokshura, Usheera, Sariva, Padmakesara and Udeechya.

Here are some suggestions on how to stop abnormal uterine bleeding naturally: 

  • Eat raisins every day to pacify Pitta Dosha and relieve dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
  • You may also use saffron to treat Asrigdhara. For this, take a thin strand of saffron and add it to one teaspoon of honey. Mix it well and consume it. 
  • Ashoka tree bark is also highly beneficial in treating Asrigdhara. To make this home remedy, take 25 grams of Ashoka bark powder and add it to 200 ml of water. Boil the water till only 50 ml of the mixture remains. Then, add 50 ml of milk and let the mixture boil till it is reduced to half. Strain the mixture and allow it to cool before drinking it.
