Detoxification is key to managing health, especially in the current world of unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits. Everyone tries different ways to detoxify health. What if we tell you there exists an easy, natural and effective approach to detoxification that also removes toxins from your mind? Yes, we are talking about Ayurveda.

Ayurveda and Detoxification

Ayurveda aims at restoring the harmony between mind, body and spirit and balances your three Doshas, viz Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Removal of toxins is key to achieving this goal.

Ayurveda says that Ama or toxins get accumulated inside the body when food is not properly digested, pollutants do not get flushed, or the body does not get routinely cleansed. Reducing mental Ama is equally important in the process of detoxification. The simple reason behind this lies in the fact that mind and body, especially guts are directly connected. 

Practicing mindful meditation can be proven extremely helpful in this process. It is a technique in which you incline your mind to focus only on the present and not wander everywhere else. 

Bring changes in the dietary intake:

Include light food in your diet which is easily able to digest. Avoid fried and heavy food because it builds up toxin accumulation.

Drink warm water throughout the day. It helps to remove toxins from the body. Avoid drinking or eating anything cold.

Include fruits and easily-digested grains and proteins such as quinoa, barley, millet, dal, etc. in your diet.

Drink more water and keep your body hydrated. Nothing works better than water to remove toxins.

Include food that helps the body remove toxins such as curd, lemons, etc. Although the dietary changes depend upon the Doshas present in the body, certain dietary intakes help everyone such as these.

Bring changes in the lifestyle

Build up a routine and follow it. The body works smoothly and effectively in a routine.

Wake up early in the morning and take an early sleep at night. Let your body work according to circadian rhythms.

Take at least three meals a day. Take your heaviest meal during noon and have a light dinner at night. The digestive system is the strongest during the noon, hence it digests the food easily and avoids the accumulation of toxins.

Avoid taking snacks in between the meals.

Include physical exercise in the routine and avoid smoking.

Some Ayurvedic herbs that can help the body flush out toxins can be easily found within the confines of the kitchen.

Turmeric and ginger are two very effective remedies that help remove toxins. With anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties, these effectively boost the digestive system and restore the balance of the body.

Another Ayurvedic herb that has numerous benefits and is often called the powerhouse of Ayurveda, Triphala, can be used as an effective remedy in toxins removal. Triphala boosts the digestive system and avoids the accumulation of toxins.
