How to Prepare Drumstick Healthy Recipe

1. Drumstick Masala

This is a North Indian drumstick gravy recipe and a simple combination of drumsticks cooked along with a melange of several aromatic spices. Drumstick imparts a sweet flavour to the dish along with the flavoursome spices to offer a scrumptious taste. The best aspect of this drumstick recipe is that it is extremely easy to prepare with the use of everyday, simple ingredients.

How to Cook Drumstick Masala

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • Drumsticks (5)
  • Tomatoes (2)
  • Garlic paste (1 ½ teaspoon)
  • Turmeric powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Green chili (3)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Panch Phoron (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Large onions (2)
  • Ginger paste (1 ½ teaspoon)
  • Red chili powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Garam masala powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Vegetable oil (3 tablespoons)
  • Sugar (as needed)

Instructions:

  • Place a pan on a medium flame and add water in it together with drumsticks. Let it come to a boil. Now, add salt to it along with turmeric powder. After the drumsticks have turned tender, place them in a separate bowl and set aside.
  • Place a deep bottomed pan on a full flame and add oil to it. After the oil is hot, add Panch Phoron to it. After a minute, add finely chopped onions to it along with ginger paste and garlic paste. Sauté the mixture until the onions become translucent and brown. Now, add finely chopped tomatoes to it and cook until they turn tender.
  • Add green chilies to the pan as well as garam masala powder, red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Add the tender drumsticks to the pan and cook for approximately 10 minutes. Your drumsticks masala is now ready to be served.

2. Drumsticks Cutlets

Cutlets are one of the best snacks to prepare to satiate your hunger pangs. This is an innovative drumstick recipe, wherein you need to use drumstick pulp that is mixed with spices and fresh herbs. You will simply love this deep-fried drumstick recipe with its crunchy texture and lip-smacking taste.

How to Cook Drumstick Cutlets

Serves 8

Ingredients:

  • Refined oil (as needed)
  • Garam masala powder (1 tablespoon)
  • Gram flour or besan (1 ¼ cup)
  • Garlic flakes (2 teaspoons)
  • Grated onion (3 teaspoons)
  • Finely chopped green chili (1 teaspoon)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Drumstick (16 nos.)
  • Coriander leaves (1 ½ teaspoon)
  • Bread slices (5)
  • Chopped ginger (2 teaspoons)
  • Breadcrumbs (1 cup)

Instructions:

  • For this drumstick recipe, boil the drumsticks adequately and carefully extract the inner portion using a spoon. Cool it and grind it in a mixer.
  • After this, heat the frying pan by adding oil and then add the chopped garlic, ginger, chilies, and onions. Stir this mixture well.
  • Now, add the drumstick extract or pulp, garam masala powder, and salt to the mixture. Add some chopped coriander leaves to the mixture and keep stirring until the onions turn brown. Add in the gram flour, breadcrumbs, and mix all the ingredients to form a lump. Make smaller cutlets from the mixture and then roll them in the breadcrumbs. Chill this for 10 minutes and then re-roll the mixture.
  • Deep fry the cutlets in hot oil until the cutlets turn golden brown. Serve them hot along with green chutney.

3. Drumstick Curry

Apart from daily curries, here is a unique drumstick gravy recipe that you can prepare at home with utmost ease. Made with freshly available drumsticks and spices, drumstick curry has a tangy flavour, with a dash of garlic. Prepare this drumstick gravy recipe by following just a few simple steps and serve alongside steamed rice or yummy parathas.

How to Cook Drumstick Curry

Serves 5

Ingredients:

  • Scraped drumsticks (7 nos.)
  • Mustard seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Asafoetida (a pinch)
  • Chopped green chili (1)
  • Finely chopped tomatoes (3)
  • Turmeric powder (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Cumin powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Curry leaves (1 tablespoon)
  • Jaggery powder (1 ½ tablespoon)
  • Refined oil (1 ½ tablespoon)
  • Cumin seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Chopped garlic (8 cloves)
  • Chopped onions (2)
  • Red chili powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Coriander powder (3 teaspoons)
  • Garam masala powder (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Salt (as needed)

Instructions:

  • For this drumstick recipe, bring two cups of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt. Add drumstick pieces and cook until it turns tender. After this, drain the surplus water.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium flame. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add cumin seeds and a pinch of asafoetida. Now, add chopped green chilies along with garlic and sauté for a couple of minutes.
  • Add onions and sauté them over a low flame until they turn pinkish in colour. Add chopped tomatoes and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until they become soft and after the oil begins to separate.
  • After the onion-tomato mixture has been cooked, add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and cumin powder. Stir fry this mixture.
  • Now, add cooked drumsticks and mix well. Add approximately half a cup of water (which has been drained) and cook for 3-4 minutes on a medium flame.
  • Add salt and jaggery and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Garnish this side dish with curry leaves. Serve hot with parathas or steamed rice.

4. Drumstick Crisp Patties

Switch to an exclusive and new variation of homemade burger patties with the help of this drumstick recipe.   • Drumsticks (12)
  • Garlic (4)
  • Green chilies (4)
  • Coriander leaves (1 tablespoon)
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • Water (as needed)
  • Gram flour or besan (1 cup)
  • Ginger (1 tablespoon)
  • Chopped onion (1 cup)
  • Garam masala powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Refined oil (2 tablespoons)

Instructions:

  • Separately chop the onions, green chilies, coriander leaves, and keep them aside. After this, grate the garlic and ginger and keep them aside. Then, wash the drumsticks and cut them into 1-inch-long vertical pieces.
  • Boil some water in a deep-bottomed pan and add the sliced drumsticks to it. Once the drumsticks become tender, remove them from the pan, and preserve the water for further use.
  • Place the boiled drumsticks in a bowl and then add grated garlic, grated ginger, onions, green chilies, and coriander to the drumsticks. Then, add some salt and garam masala powder and mix all ingredients thoroughly. After this, mash the mixture.
  • Add some besan and the preserved water to this mixture and then knead it into a soft dough. Divide the dough into eight equal portions and then shape them into cutlets. Then, refrigerate the cutlets for approximately 10-12 minutes.
  • Heat refined oil in a frying pan and gently place the drumstick cutlets in the pan. Pan sear the cutlets until they attain a golden-brown hue and are crisp in texture. Serve hot.

5. Toor Dal with Drumstick

Give a fresh twist to the traditional, daily dal recipe with drumsticks. This is an extremely popular South Indian drumstick recipe with a scrumptious taste and can be surely served as a main dish, even on special days and occasions. 

How to Cook Toor Dal with Drumstick

Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • Chopped onion (1 cup)
  • Ghee (1 ½ tablespoon)
  • Turmeric powder (3/4 teaspoon)
  • Chopped tomato (1 cup)
  • Dried fenugreek leaves (3 pinches)
  • Green chilies (3) 
  • Ginger (3 teaspoons)
  • Mustard seeds (1 teaspoon)
  • Asafoetida (3 pinches)
  • Garlic cloves (5)
  • Drumsticks (3)
  • Salt (as needed)
  • Toor dal (1 ½ cup)
  • Cumin seeds (1 ½ teaspoons)

Instructions

  • To prepare this delicacy, rinse the dal in water until the water comes clean. Soak the dal in 3 cups of water for approximately an hour. Chop the tomatoes, onions, and ginger, and crush the fenugreek leaves. Cut the drumstick into 2-inch pieces.
  • Now, place the dal into a pressure cooker. Add water, ginger, garlic, onions, tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric powder, curry leaves, drumsticks, and salt. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.
  • Add in fenugreek leaves. Then, heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds and sauté until they begin to splutter. Add in the asafoetida, cumin seeds, and then the curry leaves. Add this tempering to the dal. Transfer hot dal into serving bowls and serve.
