Hair Fall

Hair fall is a prolonged problem for most people, and the search for holistic and herbal solutions for hair fall seems everlasting. However, your search may end now. Ayurveda recommends many herbs and hair strengthening tips to prevent hair fall and promote regrowth.

However, before you find the Ayurvedic secrets to preventing hair fall, let’s see what Ayurveda has to say about the problem.

Ayurvedic Perspective on Hair Fall

According to Ayurveda, hair fall, also known as Khalitya Roga, occurs due to many reasons. Some of the most common causes of hair fall include poor nutrition and dietary consumption, high levels of stress, environmental factors like pollution, hormonal imbalance and unhealthy lifestyle habits (1).

Home Remedies for Hair Fall

Oil Your Hair Regularly

Apply warm herbal oil on your scalp at least 3-4 times a week. It helps nourish the hair follicle and gives strength to the cortex and fibre of hair, thereby reducing hair fall (2).

Use Brahmi Oil

Brahmi oil provides strength to the blood vessels, activates protein cells inside the hair shaft and reduces stress and anxiety. It is one of the best herbal oils to nourish your scalp and prevent hair fall.

Use Bhringraj Oil

Bhringraj oil is powered by vitamin E, calcium, magnesium and iron, all of which help to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss. In addition, Bhringraj oil also helps promote sleep and increase blood circulation in the scalp.

Imbued with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, Jatamansi oil is one of the best home remedies to prevent hair fall. Jatamansi is known to penetrate deep inside your hair follicles and strengthen your hair strands from roots.

Apply Methi Mask

Methi or fenugreek is rich in vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin C and folic acid, all of which help boost hair health and prevent hair fall (5). You can make a hair mask with Methi and curd and apply it to your hair, or massage your hair with Methi oil.

Wash Your Hair Regularly

According to Ayurveda, you should wash your hair at least three times a week with mild or herbal shampoos. You should also ensure to wash your hair with lukewarm water, as warm or cold water can reduce the strength of hair roots and cause hair fall (2).

Avoid Harmful Hair Treatments

Heat treatments and chemical products can damage your hair and increase hair fall. Therefore, you must avoid colouring your hair with chemicals and using heat treatments like blow-drying, straightening or curling.

Do Nasya

Nasya is an Ayurvedic therapy in which you administer Anu Tailam or Desi Ghee into your nostrils. It is highly beneficial for nourishing hair follicles, strengthening hair roots, stimulating hair growth and preventing hair fall (2).

Eat a Healthy Diet

Since hair is primarily made up of protein, it is essential to add more protein products to the diet, such as fish, yeast, low-fat cheese, beans, yoghurt, etc.

In addition, you should also increase the intake of iron to promote blood formation. Some of the best iron-rich foods include raisins, dates, green vegetables, etc.

Furthermore, you should avoid eating raw, cold, spicy and sugary foods and restrict the consumption of junk foods like burgers, fries, carbonated drinks, etc.

Drink Amla Juice

Amla provides iron which is essential for hair growth (4). In addition, it also increases blood circulation in the scalp and provides many antioxidants that help boost overall scalp health. To use Amla, you can either drink fresh Amla juice in the morning or nourish your hair with Amla oil.

Practice Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation

Yoga, Pranayama and meditation help relieve stress and promote blood circulation in the body.

Some of the best Yoga Asanas to reduce hair fall are Vajrasana (Diamond Pose), Sirsasana (Headstand Pose), Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Shashankasana (Moon Pose), Ustrasana (Camel Pose), Pawanmuktasana (Wind-Relieving Pose) and Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend Pose).

Kapalabhati and Anuloma-Viloma are some of the best Pranayamas to prevent hair fall.

On a Final Note

Hair fall is one of the most common problems in the modern world. Using herbal and holistic home remedies for hair fall is the best way to cope with this problem.

There are many Ayurvedic herbs like Amla, Bhringraj, Brahmi and Jatamansi that can help promote hair growth and prevent hair fall.

Additionally, Ayurveda also recommends doing Nasya, practising Yoga and oiling your hair to nourish your hair.
