However, it is not only a culinary spice but also a medicinal herb that offers numerous health benefits to the body. According to Ayurveda, coriander seeds can treat many problems such as constipation, indigestion, bloating, urinary tract infections, etc. 

About Coriander Seeds

The botanical name of coriander seeds is Coriandrum sativum, and it belongs to the Parsley family. Although they are native to the Mediterranean region, they are now widely cultivated in India in the states of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.   

Coriander Seeds in Ayurveda

Coriander seeds are known as Dhanyaka in Sanskrit. According to Ayurveda, they are bitter, sweet and pungent in Rasa (taste), and exhibit a hot potency. They are Tridosha Nashak, which means that they help pacify all three Doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. 

Medicinal Properties of Coriander Seeds

Coriander seeds are rich in anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, diuretic, expectorant, laxative, digestive, antimicrobial, antioxidative, antibacterial, hypoglycemic and antiseptic properties. They are a good source of various nutrients such as iron, manganese, magnesium, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin K and vitamin C.

  • Aids in Diabetes Management:

Coriander seeds exhibit hypoglycemic properties, which help lower blood sugar levels in the body and stimulate insulin production in the pancreas, thereby aiding in diabetes management. They also help to reduce many other symptoms of diabetes such as urination, fatigue, etc.
